Free The Girls (2016)
According to Free The Girls, an estimated 20 million to 37 million men, women and children are being held as slaves around the world — more today than in any other time in history. The majority of these slaves are women and girls – many of whom are victims of sex trafficking.
Established in 2010, Free The Girls partners with established after-care facilities to provide an opportunity for sex trafficking survivors to build their own business selling second-hand clothing while going to school, establishing a house, and caring for their families.
Zonta Club of Bonita Springs – Estero supports Free The Girls by collecting new and gently-used bras for these women to use. Bras are usually sought-after items and command top dollar in the marketplace. Women will collect the bras and open a shop in a local village on a street corner to sell them; allowing them to obtain an income so they can support themselves and their families.
We were honored to have Kimba Langas, a co-founder of Free The Girls, as the guest speaker at our Woman of the Year Luncheon on April 20, 2016.
